We decided to visit All Star Lanes in Brick Lane for a Birthday get together.
Now when we talk about bowling, I’m sure you will expect this place to be similar to the Tenpin Bowling chain venues. Chipped bowling balls, dented lanes, vending machines and greasy burger counter tucked away in the corner.
All Star Lanes couldn’t be anymore different. Not only was this a venue for bowling, it was also a bar, a karaoke room, a fabulous restaurant and to top it off it even had a private hire room, with its own Lanes!
The bar area offered a variety of tasty cocktails as well as a good selection of Milkshakes; the “Oh Sweet Jeez!” milkshake (Peanut Butter, Banana, Chocolate and Caramel) is a must.
The atmosphere is relaxed and fun with a 1950’s theme. There aren’t many bowling lanes in the Brick Lane Venue but this just adds to the appeal of the place so be sure to phone up to make a reservation in advance. The pool table is also a good distraction whilst waiting for either your table or your lanes to be ready.
Now onto the best part of the evening, Food! The atmosphere was perfect for a party, American diner themed with tunes blasted out by the in-house DJ. Red leathered sofa booths and chequered napkins to compliment the theme. There were quite a few of us on this occasion, so we got to sample quite a few items on the menu. For starters we ordered a spread of hush puppies, popcorn salt & pepper squid with chilli jam, hot smoked salmon, potato cakes with horseradish cream and of course, the classic bbq wings with blue cheese sauce. Phewwwwww. May we take this opportunity to remind you all there was a lot of us so it wasn’t because our eyes were too big for our stomachs (even thought this is actually a very accurate account) Without waffling on too long, it was surprisingly good for an American themed diner. Food was well seasoned, nicely presented and big portion sizes. The service was faultless for the amount of people at our table and seemed happy to serve us (definitely something you don’t see everyday).
For the mains most of us ordered the classic All Star 8oz prime beef burger accompanied by skinny fries and a side of burger sauce. One of our fellow diners ordered the basket of fried buttermilk chicken, (we all though this would be similar to the likes of the chicken you get from KFC, it was moist and so tender, hardly something you could buy at a fast food chain. We also ordered a 12oz rump steak, which was slightly overcooked to how we requested but quite nice nonetheless, served with sweet potato fries and a choice of sauces. Oh how amazing the sweet potato fries were!
Onto the desserts, rocky road sundae; ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and brownies. Need we say more? The vanilla ice cream was especially nice, creamy ice cold luxurious ice cream with a pot of melted hot chocolate sauce.
Who would have thought a night of bowling could be so much fun!
