Busaba Eathai

Busaba Eathai was chosen more out of convenience than desire, we were looking for somewhere close by that was quick and good value. Busaba Eathai seemed the perfect option; quick service, agreeable menu and good prices.

We arrived at the restaurant and were welcomed by the exotic smell of incense and statues of golden budda’s at the entrance, which was an authentic touch. However it was clear the restaurant was a chain; efficient, fast and impersonal. We were swiftly seated on beach style chairs both facing the window. We preferred to sit opposite each other rather than side by side but this was an option if we had wanted to wait a few moments, so no complaints there.

The restaurant was typically Thai – simple and stylish. There were dark wood decor throughout and a tented roof. We were quickly handed our menus that had a good choice of dishes that were surprisingly authentic rather than the usual ‘European’ alternatives that are bland and ‘done’.

We ordered a butternut fragrant curry with crab meat rice and black bean beef flavoured with lemon grass. Both came out incredibly quickly and were piping hot.  The curry was spicy and was well flavoured but not over powering, however we were a little disappointed with the crab meat rice as this lacked flavour and crab meat for that matter! This dish was too delicate to be placed with such a full flavoured menu. The beef was in a delicious sauce, it was very spicy with whole chilli peppers mixed into the sauce, but was rather over cooked.  Some parts of the eveening were a refreshing change from the atypical eastern style chains that you find in the UK, which are bland and afraid to scare their diners away with a bit of spice. The food was full flavoured and really took us back to our travels backpacking around Thailand.

We finished our food and were quickly given our bill. The menu had a nice choice and very reasonable. Although we would not make a special effort to visit, we certainly would come again if we needed good food fast.
